Uma Vegesina

In the Indian tradition nature or prakriti have always been synonymous and identified with the feminine aspect in its qualities of nourishment fertility and the life force itself. Indian artists have since times immemorial compared and used the metaphor of the feminine principle to depict nature in all its glory.

I often use a woman as a protagonist in my work - conjoint with nature. The woman is often depicted with other creatures and flora and fauna existing suffering and celebrating her life. The colours, which permeate these works are often resonances of my own emotional state of being.
