Udaya Chiluveru’s- creative journey
Udaya embraces the essence of Indian traditional painting and merges it with personal connotation, reaching at a crisp, stylistically rich form of painting. She believes in experimenting with varied media and at a given stretch of time, she completely dedicates herself to a particular medium and subject. She explores the material and the idea from as many perspectives as possible, keeping no stones unturned during her creative journey. The body of work done by the artist richly exemplifies her versatility to work with every possible medium and material. She excels in extending the periphery of the medium that she uses into a malleable spirit where she grants them the verve she desires them to portray. The medium becomes supportive and completely exists in sync with her creative idea, becoming one with it deeply and intricately.
Udaya is greatly inspired by the innate traditional aspects of Indian painting. Her works have been reflecting the Indian ethos amalgamated with personal style and connotation. The reflection of Indian miniature painting, murals from Ajanta and Tanjore painting get frequently mentioned/celebrated in her works.
Her earlier works done on glass reflected the anecdotes picked up from rural life. These works are aesthetically finished and rendered with lyrical grace. She accentuates the rustic charms with a stylised perspective.
The murals done on wood with gold foil exemplify a series of creative portraits that are rustic and modern at the same time. The seriousness of the medium with the rich, lustrous yellow of the metal, grants the works an unsurpassable rich and exquisite grace.
From working on portraits done with gold foil Udaya subtly moved towards working on fibreglass masks, these works are like an extension of the earlier portraits only on a different medium. The masks are finished, glossy and rendered creatively, these often amalgamate, flora and fauna, and some are done in collage technique as well using brocade pieces.
The recent series of paintings completely rejoice the innate, extremely attractive charisma of the flora. Udaya bestows upon the picture surface of her works, large flora that completely reign over the space. She dedicates a section of the work to the Gods and Goddesses, that are rendered in such a manner that they celebrate the Indian ethos to the fullest. These divine beings, reflect the fine aesthetics of traditional Tanjore painting. The viewer is sure to get fascinated by the beautiful combination of the floral clusters and the divine figures that enthral and obviously so, as Udaya is well versed, immaculate and perfect in traditional Tanjore painting, as well.
