Sowjanya Lavu
At a glance, paintings of Sowjanya Lavu appear as liner monochromatic patterns. Only upon a closer observation can one get the sense of the catastrophic designs. A world that is in ruins or on the verge of it is portrayed as an expression of her deep seeded fears and concern for human societies, which are on a rapid self-destructive mode. As a metaphor for the body the crumbling dwellings convey the physical fragility and vulnerabilities. Nevertheless, over and above the apocalyptic debris is the eternal sky that seems to invite to an unknown and desirable tomorrow as shown in one of the works painted in yellow ochre and white. What comes as a pleasant change is a bird, symbolic of life and mirth, perched on the edge of the ruble and perhaps, visualizing as to reconstruct a nest or a home.
